Daytime - 6-19-2000
Good Day, Father's Day, and just a little about today.
"I've had the most absurd nightmare. I was poor and no one liked me."

Well, well, well. What a weekend indeed. Hope I didn't freak eveyone out too much with my last post. Still doesn't really feel like it has set in. What the hell am I saying? We're losing our house, it set in the second I heard it. Shit.

The wife, kids and I went and looked at apartments this weekend. Luckily, the first one we found was perfect. I had located it on the internet and we went by Saturday afternoon to have a look. And talk about irony. The wife, when she was in high school, used to walk past this place all the time. We were even looking at it BEFORE we bought the house, but something came up or something and we ended up with the house. Won't make that mistake again.

The place we found is called Limetree Village and it's in Deerfield Beach Florida. The complex is really nice and it's in a pretty nice neighborhood. We, of course, were blown away by the price. A 2 bedroom apartment. 1100 square feet. 2 FULL baths. Screened in porch. All for only $710 a month. Finding a 2br apartment in Florida for that cheap is about as easy as finding the Golden Fleece. In fact, the Fleece would probably be easier. Problem, is, we don't even have the money to have them hold it for us. But we will by the end of the week. So, we figure, we give them the money to hold it and be really tight with our money. Then I'll get paid again on July 7. If we've been good enough with our money (and I can get some freelance people to pony up), then we'll have the money for our deposit and first months rent. Woohoo!!!!

Just hope they don't require a spotless credit history or we're fucked. The lady who showed us around was very nice and when I explained to her that we were having trouble with the mortgage company and all, she didn't seem phased. She made it sound like, if we give them the money, then they'll let us in. Besides, we have 2 kids. I think she didn't see us as much of a risk noise and damage-wise. Hope she's right.

After looking at the aparment Saturday, we went to Big K and walked around looking at stuff. Found a great deal on a brand new dinette set ($89, normally $130). We killed about an hour or so and then headed to the movie theater next door. We hadn't been to the movie with 4-year-old for a long time because he was always "I have to pee" and stuff. The wife knows how into movies I get so she always volunteers to take him. Problem is, she trusts him too much. Me, when I take him to the bathroom, I'm on his hip the whole time. She takes him into the restroom and lets him go into the stall by himself. And guess what? He locks her out. Then he proceeds to play and make a mess in the stall. One time, she actually had to crawl under the door and drag him out because he wouldn't leave and she couldn't get in. Needless to say, no one enjoyed the rest of THAT movie. So, we got in the habit of either not going or of begging her mom to watch the kids.

Well, Saturday was different. 4-year-old was being really good all day and the movie we wanted to see was a cartoon (Titan AE) so we figured no problem. Well, this is when Icebear Jr. decides to put his 2 cents in. Just as we're getting ready to leave Big K, he starts fussing and crying. Time to be fed. So the wife feeds him ½ a bottle real quick and we head to the theater. I actually sat outside the theater for about 10 minutes feeding him while she got the tickets.

Once in, we quickly got soda and popcorn and headed to the theater. 4-year-old, I have to say, did a marvelous job. He sat still almost the entire movie. He did get up and start looking around a couple of times, but when I told him to sit down and be still, he did. Icebear Jr. didn't fuss or anything the whole time. In fact, during a pretty loud space battle scene I looked over and he was sound asleep. Of course, the fact that the wife had his carrier in her lap and was bouncing it the whole time probably helped. She's so great. The movie was good, the kids were good, the whole day was good. Now that I look back on it, I realize how really good a day it was. I like those.

Too bad they don't last. Sunday, we slept in a little, well, I slept in. Then we decide to have lunch at a new McDonald's that's been built. Afterwards, we wanted to go see if we could find some furniture stores, but we needed the stroller, so we headed back home. We went to Pompano Square Mall first. 4-year-old normally loves to go here, but since we looked at the apartment, all he's wanted to do is go back. (The complex has 2 pools you see.) Anyway, after about an hour walking through the mall to no avail, we decide to hit Sawgrass Mills Outlet Mall. It's a bit of a drive, about 20-30 minutes, but the mall is really big and we figure we'll find something. Nope. Nada. We walked that entire mall. My legs were killing me, still are, and couldn't find anything. The only places that had any kind of furniture had overpriced futons and that was it. So we leave and of course, right across the road is a Rooms to Go. We whip in expecting to enter a regular furniture store, but whooops! Everything they sold was in sets and there was nothing NOTHING under $1500 for the set. The cheapest thing I saw in the entire store was an otoman for $250.

Needless to say, we booked out of there. We ended up going home and relaxing. The only thing we need is a chair or two (one preferably a recliner or at least a rocker...I can't sit still too well), and a couch. That's it. We don't need a couch, love seat, 2 chairs, a coffee table and otoman. The wife found a nice sectional listed in the paper today, but they want $300 for it and we really need to hold onto all we have for when we move into the apartment. Hopefully in the next 2 weeks or so.

Today has been one of those slow, boring days. I keep dozing off at my computer. Luckily, as far as I know, I haven't been snoring. Be glad when this day is over. Just another ½ hour.

Well, it's a little late, but since I didn't post over the weekend I have an excuse. I want to wish all the fathers out there a very happy (belated) Father's Day. Hope you had a good one. Even you Uncle Bob although technically you're not a father yet. We'll let you slide this year. You all have a good evening and I'll catch you on the flip side.

"Where are we going and why am I in this handbasket?"

Icebear
